In his 16 years at Wetherspoon, Jonny has progressed from part-time kitchen associate to pub manager and co-chair of our LGBTQIA+ network group.

Jonny has also completed a professional diploma in leisure retail management and spent two years studying CIPD human resource management. He enjoys the flexibility of his role and developing his team.

Here, he reflects on his career and shares his thoughts with us.

“Ten years ago, as a fresh-faced 24-year-old, I was given the keys to my own J D Wetherspoon pub – and what a decade it has been! “Plenty of blood, sweat and tears, but would I change any of it? Absolutely not.

“Countless lessons learned (and still learning), experience under the belt (albeit not the same-sized belt as back then) and the opportunity to work alongside and develop some genuinely fantastic people are just three of the last decade’s biggest perks.

“It’s hard to believe that I’ve worked for Wetherspoon for half of my life, from a shy little pot-washer to now, but I love it more than ever.”
